x = 60% chlorinated 100-x = 40% chlorinated .6x + .4(100-x) = .5(100) .6x + 40 - .4x = 50 .2x = 10 x = 50 therefore, 50(units) of 60% chlorinated, and 50(units) of 40% chlorinated
