meiosis halves the number of chromosomes during the cell division. It forms the gametes; mitosis is the actual cell division, its when the nucleus divides into nuclei containing the same number of chromosomes.

mitosis is cell division [you get two identical daughter cells] meiosis is the formation of gametes [sex cells]

in meiosis you end up with two cells but in mitosis you end up with 4

Mitosis is for making daughter cells identical to the original cell.  That requires only 4 steps.  Most of the cells in your body were made by this process.  Meiosis is a special form of cell division that takes the pairs of chromosomes you inherited from your two different parents and separates them into new sperm or eggs.  Normal human cells are "diploid" because you have 23 pairs of kinds of chromosomes.  When you make sperm or eggs, you'll only give half your chromosomes(only one of each kind of chromosome) to that sperm or egg, so those cells are called haploid. This is more complicated, so meiosis has many more steps, the first half of which ("Meiosis I) separate the pairs of chromosomes, the second half of which ("Meiosis II) looks a lot like mitosis since it focuses on separating the copies of each DNA molecule that were made just before cell division started. You should watch episode 10 of the AP Bio course

Meiosis is the process of division that produces gametes.Mitosis is the process of replication and division required for growth.   http://in.docsity.com/en-docs/Cells_Reproduction_-_Principles_of_Biology_-_Lecture_Slides_pdf
