well doesn't x/x =1? so wouldn't it be 1 - 2 which equals -1? idk. thats what i would think though.

Please use parentheses and/or brackets correctly or else the question makes no sense. Do you mean (x/x) - 2 or x/(x - 2)? Mathland

I'm guessing that she needs to simplify (x) / (x-2).This expression IS simplified.For another example, let's simplify something like (x - 2) / xThis is just x/x - 2/x. Just think about "undoing" the addition of two fractions with equal denominators.x/x - 2/x is the same as 1 - 2/xI do, however, agree with the earlier posts. Without grouping symbols, it's hard to tell what you intend. In short, parentheses DO matter.
