I think you're asking why you need to multiply each terms by the common factor. There are two ways to do this, depending on whether it's an expression or an equation. If it's an equation, you can do one thing to one side, and do the same thing to the other side, but if it's an expression (without equal sign) it changes everything completely.If I remember right, you have to multiply each term by a number or set of numbers that gives the terms the same denominator....Not sure how to explain that one. X_X
