I'm not sure what you mean by "combine the exponent", but I think you should remember that as long as the new expression that you write is equivalent, it should be "OK".

Continuous compounding interest on a principal P is usually expressed as A = P*e^r*t  where r is the interest rate in decimal and time is normally in years.  Since I don't know the original problem I'm guessing you had principal P = $3000 so I expect your answer is correct as is stands.
