Your equation is given in the slope-intercept form y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. Looking at your equation, I can quickly see that the slope is 3.  Do you see it? The slope in such equations will always be the number next to x.  Understand? nycfunction@yahoo.com Guido

yes it does. 3 is the slope. if the problem was y=x-2, then 1 would be the slope. the number in front of the x is always the slope.

If you think of slope as a ratio of the change in the y value for a unit increase in the x value, then you can use the equation to calculate...if x = 1, y = 3(1) - 2 or y = 1if x = 2, y = 3(2) - 2 or y = 4The y values increased by 3 three units as x increased by one unit. The slope is 3.
