Multiply the whole equation by 2:7x+8=1+x6x=-7, sox=-7/6.

Sorry, don't agree with Delta's answer.  The least common denominator is 2x so multiply all terms on both sides by 2x to get 7 + 8x = x + 1.  Then rearrange to get 7x = -6 and divide by 7 to get x = -6/7.  This answer checks.
