2 girls : 1 boy   G/385 = 2/3               Cross Multiply 3G = 770 Divide G by 3 3G/3 = 770/3 G = 257 G + B = 385 ^ (Substitute G) 257 + B = 385        Move the "G" value to the other side of the equation 257 - 257 + B = 385 - 257 B = 128 Therefore, with the 2G : 1B ratio given to you there are 257 girls and 128 boys 257 girls : 128 boys If 2/3 of the boys are surfers then multiply your b value, 128, by 2 then divide it by 3. 128*2/3 = 85 of the boys are surfers if 1/12 of the girls are surfers then multiply your g value, 257, by 1 and divide by 12 257*1/12 = 21 girls are surfers
