The sheet asks me to "Use Synthetic Substitution to find P(C)" what does this mean, and how? For example, the first one is P(x)=x^3-2x^2-5x-7 P(4)=  ?

There's a theorem that goes along with these types of problems. It's called the remainder theorem, where basically if you were to find the remainder of the function by dividing it by (x - c), then whatever your remainder was would equal the answer if you substituted c for x in the function and actually solving it.In other words, you need to know what c was (in this case, 4) and use synthetic division to divide x^3-2x^2-5x-7 by x-4.4 | 1  -2  -5  -7   |      4    8  12     1   2    3 |  5Our last value is 5; that is the remainder. So, P(4) = 5.~ Azaler
