4x + (-12) = 8 add 12 to both sides to get rid of it and you get 4x=20. divide both sides by 4 to get x by itself and you get x=5.

4x+(-12)=8First, you add 12 to both sides so you can see how much 4x needs to be to equal 8.4x+(-12)+12=8+12                 4x=20Once you have this, you divide 20 by 4 to get                   x=5check your answer: 4(5)+(-12)=4x+(-12)               8=8Hope this helps!
