Marbury V Madison the court case.John Adams, made some appointments of judge positions near midnight. Some weren't carried out. Jefferson told Madison not to sign any other things, for they were a way to keep the federalists in power.Marbury, wanting his position, tried to "Sue" the goverment to get his position. He didn't get it but The judge made Judicial Review which allowed them to call a law unconstitutional, it strengthened the federal goverment

John Adams was mad that he had lost the election to Thomas Jefferson. Because he wanted to keep his political party in power, he tried to set up all the courts with federalist judges on his last day in office. These judges were nicknamed midnight judges because that's how late Adams stayed up doing this. Jefferson was obviously not happy with this and took it to the Supreme Court. They ruled in his favor to get rid of the midnight judges. This ruling was called Marbury vs Madison. Not all of the midnight judges were taken out of their positions though. They were getting mixed signals and were unhappy when they were told they were out of a job so some remained.
