3[2(4+1)²]-10² in this example after arriving at 150-10² the example says it becomes -100 but if I'm not mistaken it should be +100--150+100. can anyone check this here is the lesson problem 3

i think what you wanted to do was take (-10)^2, yes? keep this in mind, the exponent will only work on the single thing that it is attached to. in this case, it's attached to 10. don't think that the negative sign before the 10 is attached to the 10. all you would want to do is have 150-10^2, which would be 150-100. here are some other examples of what I mean by "attached." (-10)^2 = +100 -5^2 = -25
