Because the denominators are the same, there is no need to find the LCD. We simply keep the denominator and add the given numerators across the top. [(2y + 3) + 1]/(y + 1) = (2y + 4)/(y + 1) We can now factor the numerator to simplilfy the fraction a bit more. The common factor is 2. So, we factor out 2 on top. I assume you know how to factor. Final answer: 2(y + 2)/(y + 1)
