If this is 2x times (7x squared + 4), you could write it as 2x (7x^2 + 4) = less confusing. If I am right, you would use the distributive property to write:  2x (7x^2) + 2x(4)         2x (7x^2) = 14x^3 (14 x cubed) and     2x (4) = 8x.    So 14x^3 + 8x
