What kind of step function is it? Is x rounded up or down?  Also, the answer will be different if the limit is approaching from the left or the right. If the step function rounds up, approaching from the left 1.999999999 would round up to 2, while approaching from the right 2.000000000001 would round up to 3.  Whichever it is, just plug 2 into the first x and the number it's rounded up or down to near 2 in the [x] place and that should be the answer. If you give me more information I can give you a more specific answer.  Hope this helps! :-)
