First, multiply by 6 to rid yourself of fractions. 2(7x - 4) - 3x = 5(x-2) There, that's better. Now, distribute the 2 and 5... 14x - 8 - 3x = 5x - 10 Combine like terms: 14x-3x 11x - 8 = 5x - 10 Subtract 5x from both sides. 6x - 8 = -10 Add 8 to both sides. 6x = -2 Divide by 6 on both sides. x = -2/6 = -1/3
