3(2x+5y=14)    6x+7y=8    6x + 15y = 42 -6x +   7y =   8 -----------------           8y  = 34           /8       /8 y = 4.25   Plug y back in to one of the original equations. 2x + 5(4.25) = 14 2x + 21.25 = 14       -21.25     -21.25 --------------------- 2x = -7.25 /2        /2   x = -3.625   Answer: (-3.625, 4.25)
