question about genes, first off why is it that in our DNA there is two strands, it doesnt seem right that its for the purpose of more genetic variation, since it is complementary to the adjacent strand...could we not just live with one strand?  Do the genes on both strands of DNA line up the same way? and is each nucleotide or base pair only associated with one gene? could they not be a part of many? For instance when the human genome is mapped, does it go down the chromosome, just like gene 1,2,3,4...or are there genes kind of all over the place, instead of each gene starting right after the previous gene..

we cant live with one strand because that would be rna and has a different function(making proteins)
