Regular graphing problem with an x-axis and a y-axis (x,y): if the number written for the y axis is negative then the point is below the x-axis, if positive, then the point is above the x-axis.

The coefficient in front of the term with x^2, or the 2 in this case, can be either negative or positive, if negative, the parabola will be facing down.Example:  y = -(x+1)^2 +5    This would be graphed downwards, because the x^2 term is negative.
