Electrolysis using active electrodes: Known Fact: When an active electrode like Cu is used, it dissociates as: Cu -> Cu 2+  + 2e-  . The Cu ion goes into the solution leaving 2 electrons behind in the electrode making it negatively charged.   My question: Why can't it be the other way round? Why can't electrons go into the solution leaving ions in the electrode?
