Not sure what you mean, but when I'm using the "reciprocal transformation," I tend to look for points with y-values that I can easily take the reciprocal of.  I look for points with y-values of 1/2 because after the transformation, those y-values will be transformed to 2.  And y-values of -1/2 will be transformed into y-values of -2.
