why does the boiling point change when there are different forms of structural formulas? for example pentane has a straight chain structure with a boiling point of 36.1 and pentane with a branch chained structure has a boiling point of 27.8 and lastly pentane with a ring structure has a boiling point of 9.5. why is that?

Higher boiling points mean the molecules are more strongly attracted to each other through intermolecular attractions (Van der Waals forces).  Branched and ring structure versions might also be less dense.
