I'm in Pre-Cal and I have not learned Inverse Variation in previous years: how is (-10/3) = xy inverse variation?

(-10/3) is just a number k.  If we divide k by x in order to isolate y, we have:y = k/x  (or y = -10/(3x))The point here, is that as x gets bigger, it's part of the bottom of the fraction that determines the value of y, so that fraction gets smaller, or y gets smaller. Inverse variation:  as x gets bigger, y gets smaller. To clarify it more, imagine that x is 1, then y is -10/ or -3.33333333333...   if x is 1000000, then y is -10/3000000, or -1/300000, or a very very small number. Also note that I'm talking about large and small in terms of magnitude, or absolute value.  y decreases in magnitude.
