In question 2 in the episode quiz, why can't the answer be B? What is the difference between "so" and a semicolon?

The cannot be answer B because you have the word "it" that follows the comma after "America." According to the rules of comma, that would be considered a comma splice. I am not quite sure about your questions between the "so" and semicolon but I will take a guess. The rule for semicolon is that you have to have an independent clause (a sentence that can stand on its own) before the semicolon and after the semicolon. These two sentences need to be closely related. In regards to the usage of the word "so" and "but," you will need to determine if "so" is more fitting than "but" because technically both are right in regards to mechanics (comma usage.) It would be the word "but" basically means "on the contrary." "So" essentially means "in the manner of."   Hope that helps.

Nayelee001, jenny110 was referring to the question number 2 in the quiz, not the episode.Jenny, I'm really not sure why it can't be B. I think it's because the semicolon is a BETTER CHOICE. Also, I think it's because ...So as a conjunction has two basic meanings:1. With the result or consequence that: He failed to appear, so we went on without him.2. In order that: I stayed so I could see you.and the better conjunction would have been AND, not SO in question 2's case. It's more logical.
