This is quite simple if you know what you are solving for. Are you solving for "y" or are you solving for "x" in etheir equation. If you are solving for "y" this is what you do: Problem #1: -8y+6x=36                   (if you are solving for y you have to omit the x and this is how !)                  -8y+6x=36                      -6x  -6x                  ____________                  -8y    =36-6x ......now divide each answer by -8 and get the solution.
