Joanna - If you have a TI-83 or TI-84 or similar graphing calculator, you can use graphing to get the answers.  Simply put the two equations into the "y=" screen.  Where the two lines cross is the solution.  If the lines do not cross (that is they are parallel), there is no solution.  You will find graphing a great way to tie solving algebraic equations with a visual picture of what is happening.  Good luck!

Joanna - I should have added, that if the graph shows two parallel lines that are equal (one is on top of the other), then you have an infinite number of solutions.
