x^2 +36 is simply an upward opening parabola that is shifted vertically upward 36 units.  The vertex shifts from (0,0) to (0,36)   This parabola has no real solutions only two imaginary solutions.

in addition to what steve said there can be no real solutions because if x^2 + 36=0 then x^2= -36 and a squared can not equal a real number
