7x+3 = 4x-6
TWO RULES:
(1st) Undo terms by using the opposite term (example: term +3 's opposite term is -3):
7x+3-3 = 4x-6
(2nd) What we do to one side we must do to the other sides:
7x+3-3 = 4x-6-3
As usual we combine like-terms:
7x+3-3 = 4x-6-3
7x(+3-3) = 4x(-6-3)
7x (cancel) = 4x(-9)
We're left with:
7x = 4x-9
Again...
TWO RULES:
(1st) Undo terms by using the opposite term (example: term 4x 's opposite term is -4x):
7x = 4x-4x-9
(2nd) What we do to one side we must do to the other sides:
7x-4x = 4x-4x-9
As usual we combine like-terms:
7x-4x = 4x-4x-9
(7x-4x) = (4x-4x)-9
(3x) = (cancel)-9
We're left with:
3x = -9
Again...
TWO RULES:
(1st) Undo terms by using the opposite term (example: term 3x 's opposite term is /3 because 3x is 3*x):
3x/3 = -9
(2nd) What we do to one side we must do to the other sides:
3x/3 = -9/3
As usual we combine like-terms:
3x/3 = -9/3
3x/3 = -9/3
(3x/3) = (-9/3)
(x) = (-3)
We're left with:
x = -3
You're answer is: x = -3
