Kimiloli -Re-arrange the equation so it looks like this:Once you agree with the above, then you need to use this substitution:Substitute this into the above equation:Multiply both sides by 3 to remove the fractions. Now solve for u, using factoring.  You should get:u = -1/2 or u = 3Don't forget this was a substitution: = 3 or -1/2Well,  3^x can never equal a negative number, agree?  So the only solution is:3^x = 3 or x = 1Run the solution through the original equation and show that this is the correct answer.Hope that helps
