Angela -Always draw a sketch of the problem ... it will really help you "see" what is going on!Below is a sketch. Notice the line segment from the chord to the center bisects the chord into two equal 12 unit segments.I also drew a line from where the chord touches the circle and the center of the circle. The length of this line is the radius of the circle, agree?Now, you have a right triangle with legs 5 and 12 and you can use Pythagorean Theorem to solve for the hypotenuse (which is the radius).Solve for the hypotenuse (radius) then double it to get the diameter and you are done!Hope that helped
