Ellipse Challenge Question

Pinkpantherkat

by Pinkpantherkat at June 06, 2011

My teacher says I'm getting close to the answer but not there yet.

4x^(2) + 9y^(2) + 8x + 18y -23 = 0

Identify the vertices, co-vertices, foci, length of the major axis, and length of the minor axis.

I just really need to get the standard form. I'm getting

(x+1)/2)^(2) + (y+1)/3) ^(2) = 36

Thanks so much !!!!=) Haha I can't wait til summer!

Pink -I'm sure you are looking forward to summer vacationI'll take you through the steps for the standard form:Remember, the coefficient in front of x^2 and y^2 MUST EQUAL 1 in order to complete the square:Now, simply divide both sides by 36:Hope that helps
