since you have x^2-24x, you  have the first term as x and the second term as -12 (x-12)^2-144=10 (x-12)^2=154 x-12=12.4 x=24.4 x-12=-12.4 x=-.4

To complete the square, take half of your b value (-24) and square it to get a 3rd value. So, your new equation will look like this:x^2 - 24x + 144 = 10Since you added 144 to the left side, you must add 144 to the right side.x^2 - 24x + 144 = 10 + 144x^2 - 24x + 144 = 154Now you can factor the left side of the equation into (x-12)(x-12).(x-12)(x-12)=154(x-12)^2 = 154Take the square root of both sides. (NOTE: Anytime you take the square root of a number, the answer can be positive or negative)x-12 = 12.4 AND x-12 = -12.4  x = 12.4 + 12  AND  x = -12.4 + 12x = 24.4         AND   x = -.4Plug these values back into the original equation to check them. They will not be exact since we had to round the numbers when we took the square root of them.I hope this helps.
