Precalculus MM: The Docks: Linear Equations and Inequalities 3: NWN 0157a

Before entering through the Docks gate she switches her dagger and shield back to her crossbow. Through the gate and into the Docks, and straightaway she hears Gate Captain Soren ordering her to identify herself. Soren's quite curt towards Zanzi, seeming to regard her as nothing more than a troublesome glory-seeking adventurer. But once he lets out that he was originally briefed about the Waterdhavian creatures, the source of his negative attitude towards Zanzi is revealed: he's obviously sore at being posted to guard duties while Aribeth has authorised the likes of this young slip of a girl to undertake much more challenging tasks. He does, however, seem genuinely concerned for Zanzi, and as she walks away he warns her to be careful of the "lowlife thugs" controlling the streets.
++++++
Just a few feet beyond the immediate area of the gate and Zanzi is attacked by three muggers, who, having commenced hostilities far too close to city guard, are easily taken out by a combination of Zanzi's now restored blade and the guards' arrows. Still, the attack was sneaky and Zanzi has suffered some injury in this encounter. From the bodies she removes two "smugglers' coins" of crimson coloured glass (evidently black market currency) and a document referring to an auction to be held at the Seedy Tavern in the Docks district. This note is of great significance as the item to be auctioned has something to do with the plague. The seal at the bottom of the document is that of the Bloodsailors.
++++++
Meanwhile Zanzi can't help but notice a nervous looking gent standing just a few yards away. His menacing gaze is aimed somewhat less at Zanzi herself and rather more at what she is wearing. She decides to question this annoying individual, whose defensive reaction is to terminate the conversation as soon as he can and walk off, but only to a position just a few yards away where he resumes staring at Zanzi. His final comment regarding the worth of her gear makes Zanzi wonder, "He can't seriously be waiting for an opportunity to rob me of my clothes and equipment?" To emphasise the futility of such an action she switches back to her crossbow and purposefully makes it obvious to the man that the weapon is armed and, by pointing the crossbow at him, that she won't hesitate to use it if threatened. She then proceeds farther into the Docks district.

Notes on Set Operations:
Before entering into the Docks district Zanzi took stock of all her offensive weaponry and ammunition currently stored in her inventory. She notes that she has one dagger, two wands, a rapier, a club, a sling with bullets and a light crossbow with bolts. If set A is all Zanzi's weaponry designed to be lethal, then A = {crossbow, dagger, rapier, wands, club}. If set B is all Zanzi's weaponry designed to maim, then B = {sling, club, wands}. Note that wands and the club are designed to either kill or maim, so they appear in both sets.
++++++
If Zanzi has plenty of time before attacking she may consider all weaponry available to her, this will be determined by set A union with set B, where "union with", designated "u", means all the weapons of set A or set B are to be included, or A u B = {sling, crossbow, dagger, wands, rapier, club}. The elements common to both sets A and B, i.e. the club and wands, are only represented once in the union of these sets.
++++++
If she wants make a ranged attack then only those elements of sets A and B capable of hitting a target from distance will be chosen, as determined by set A intersection with B, where "intersection with", designated "n", means include only the ranged weapons of sets A and B, or A n B = {crossbow, wands, sling}. Again wands is an element found in both sets A and B but is only represented once in the intersection of these sets.
