Having made her way through the Tanglebrook Estate tunnels she now enters the Peninsula District prison. This is the main floor of the prison and the corridor leading from the tunnels accesses a large room used to process new inmates before sending them off to their cells. Rioting prisoners breaking glass and causing general mayhem can be heard everywhere, and in this room there are three tall slim muscular male convicts, all armed. To get this far Zanzi has had to kill at least a couple dozen prisoners rampaging through the streets, but these three convicts seem more of a challenge, being as they are in their natural environment, so to speak. Zanzi is feeling really quite nervous but she counters her anxiety by devising a new plan of action. She tells Tomi to stand his ground out of view of the prisoners and then casts Invisibility on herself before walking stealthily into the room until she is some distance away from the convicts. She then casts Curse Song, orders Tomi into the room, casts Bard Song, casts Charm Person and then uses her crossbow pick off convicts from afar while they are busy fighting Tomi. This proves to be a very successful strategy as all the convicts are killed without Tomi or Zanzi sustaining so much as a scratch. Zanzi's confidence is substantially bolstered for her next confrontation. There's not much in the way of loot in this room, which reminds Zanzi that she is actually quite cross with Lady Aribeth for offering only 300GP for this very dangerous mission.
++++++
As a bard, Zanzi is naturally attuned to the infinite weave of magic permeating reality (material plane), meaning that she can cast spells without preparation. In this "weave of magic" exists every spell that has ever been discovered and has yet to be discovered. The weave itself is a kind of inert energy existing in an extra-dimensional network which separates distinct magic energies and prevents these energies from bleeding into one another. What bards (and sorcerers) do when they cast a spell is "pluck" a particular spell energy from this magic weave. Bards are very efficient at casting (or plucking out) the enchantment and illusion school of spells from the weave, which is why they tend to favour these types of spells more than others.
++++++
Invisibility belongs to the illusion school of magic and exists as perception-altering energy within areas of the magic weave bounded by certain types of kites and rhombuses.
++++++
Curse Song is a skill (or feat) assigned almost exclusively to bards that makes use of magic energy from the weave. The bard's lute is configured to emit certain very specific harmonics that cast Curse Song from the weave. The negative energy for Curse Song lies in an area of weave bounded by a regular hexagon, and the apothem of this hexagon is known only to a very select group of luthiers who manufacture magically imbued lutes for bards or harper scouts.
++++++
Bard Song works in exactly the same way as Curse Song, except it uses positive energy lying within an area of weave bounded by a regular octagon.
++++++
Charm Person belongs to the enchantment school of magic and exists as mind-affecting energy within areas of the magic weave bounded by certain circles of specific radii - Zanzi will know what radii values are required in order to cast this spell.
