NO PROBLEMO DUDE:

5x + 2 = 3x + 6

Get them terms on different sides of the equal sign. (That is put x's on one side and numbers on the other)

5x +2 - 2 - 3x = 3x - 3x + 6 - 2

That mess quickly turns into
2x = 4

now, we don't want to know what 2 x's are, we just want to know what 1 x equals...

So divide each side of that equals sign by 2
like this: 2x/2 = 4/2

And that poops out an answer of x = 2
