I think I got this one...

4x - 6 = 12

making it to =0....

4x - 6 - 12 = 12 - 12

4x - 18 = 0

now, to solve...

4x -18 +18 = 0 +18

4x = 18

divide both sides by 4

x = 18/4
x = 9/2

Check the work by substituting 9/2 for x:

DOES 4(9/2) - 6 = 12 ?

DOES 36/2 - 6 = 12 ?

DOES 18 - 6 = 12 ?

DOES 12 = 12?
